Rent should be no more than 25% of you after tax income per month.
your income can maybe pay for a room and a shared bathroom. $300.00 -$400.00 month
good luck
You make $1200 per month, so you can afford $400 per month.
Landlords usually want to see that you make 3x the rent.
I’d suggest writing up a budget.
If you have a computer with Microsoft Excel, you can get a template from them at http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/CT010117232.aspx
You can get a PDF file to make your budget from Freddie Mac:

If you take-home pay is $1200 a month (after taxes), I wouldn’t want to pay more than $300-400 a month, including utilities. If your pay before taxes is $600 every two weeks, you’d have far less money and I would look to rent a room in a house or share an apartment, since that would be far nicer than what you could afford by yourself.
