Should I give him access to come and go as he pleases? He’s not used to using a litter box. Or should I leave him in the house? I have someone to come check on him everyday. I’m afraid if I’m not home for 10 days he’ll think I’m not coming back and he’ll run away if I let him go outside. On the other hand he’s used to being outside at night and I don’t want him to destroy my house while I’m not home. Help!

leave him with a friend/relative til you get back…….
Ask a well trusted friend or neighbor to check in on kitty a few times each day, and not just to feed and water, but to also play for a little while. Cats can be rather aloof, so if someone checks on the kitty often, he/she will probably be just fine.
tough situation… My cat go’s outside at night all the time too. If yoiu leave him in over nigh, he attcks the furniture.. simetimes he goes out for more then a day at a time. When we went camping for a week we locked hime in a big room with plenty of food and water and toys and all kinds of entertainment… Dont worry obout him thinking your not coming back, When you do come back he’ll be happier then a pig in sh**
leave the cat with some1 u trust
i would get someone to check on him while you’re on vacation and keep him inside if you can. if he’s not use to a littler box now would be a good time to train him.
Leave him with a responsible adult you can count on like a relative who lives near by or and trustworthy friend who wants to take care of him over you’re vacation who can.
If you have a door that you can put in a cat door in, definately put one in, they are very inexpensive and extremely helpful with indoor/outdoor cats. They can still come and go as they please, but know that they can still come home for food and water. Especially if you have someone that will check on them every day. (that’s what we do with our cats)
I take my cat to the vet. They bored my cat while I am away. I would worry about her if I didn’t.
I have a cat that sounds alot like you describe. If you do not have a way to put in a kitty door, then I would suggest you keep him in the house just to be safe. Don’t worry about him not used to using a litter box. If that is all there is available, he’ll use it. Walk around your house and look for places kitty likes to jump up on and might disturb things, such as windowsills and shelves. Take down things you don’t want him to break, like house plants and glass nick-nacks. If he’s used to being outside, he WILL try to get out, so make sure these areas are secure, both from escape possibilities, and breaking things.
Find a trusted friend, neighbor, or family member who is willing to check in on your cat while you are gone. As long as he has plenty of food, water, a litter box, scratching post, and some sort of entertainment, he should be OK, and you will have peace of mind knowing he is not all alone outside for so long.
You should board your pet at a kennel that is set up to accept cats. This way your will know that your pet is well fed, safe and well taken care of. With a piece of mind you can enjoy your vacation. You will also be able to lock up your home and no one has to come over every day and check on your pet for 10 days.
Yes pets are a responsibility, and a expense, but we are fully aware of that when we have one by our own choice.

My friend just went away for 3 weeks, and I water her garden and roses, and take care of her 2 cats. I feed, and give water to them 2X a day, and then I turn on the lights and radio during the evening and cuddle with them and make them feel like someone cares for them. Sometimes when it’s super hot I’ll check 3X a day that they are o.k. They do have a litter box outside, but mostly they stay inside. I wouldn’t leave her completely alone with no one to look after kitty because she can get depressed or worse. Just my few cents. NOTE: What if kittys barf? Someone needs to clean up that mess, or what if they get sick, and no one is there to tend to it or take it to a vet? So yes, have someone come in. Happy kitty.
