What is the difference between D and M width shoes?

I wanted to buy some shoes, but the M width was sold out, is the D width that much different or wider? just wondering thanks.

    It’s hard to say. M stands for medium but depending on the scale D could stand for medium or wide. It’s best to try the shoes on and see how they feel.

    If you’re buying the shoes online see if the site has a free returns policy before you buy them.
