Browse: Home / Uncategorized / How can I get rid of the feeling of things crawling on my skin when I’m in my house?
By admin on August 8, 2011
I get the sensation that there are things crawling on my skin whenever I’m in my house, even when there is nothing there. There are no bite marks anywhere. And it only happens in my house.
It’s less of a severe crawling feeling and more of a light, there’s something-there feeling all over my body. I’m thinking it might be dust or dust mites, and am planning on investing in an air purifier.

Same thing happens to me! I think it probably is dust because like you, there’s no bites.
Do you have any other symptoms? Aches? Tiredness? That “crawly” feeling can be a symptom of fibromyalgia. I have a dust allergy, and as far as I’ve been told dust mites do not crawl on skin, they only live in things like mattresses and carpets. I see no reason for dust to make you have that crawly feeling, especially if it’s under your clothes, where the dust has no access. Not that I’m implying anything, but that is also a common complaint of people with mental disorders and hypochondria. This is a reason why many people who mention this sensation to their doctors find themselves being dismissed.
May be you have dust allergy.
Allergy home dust (actually, for ticks) are most often manifests itself in the form of asthma and rhinitis, rarely – conjunctivitis.
Attack begins when the patient wakes up.
The symptoms observed throughout the year, but patients feel worse in autumn and winter – when the humidity higher.
I have gotten this on & off over the years. I do have dust allergies but I don’t think this particular sensation is related (think hives, itchy eyes, rashes, sneezing, etc). Here are my suggestions (not necessarily in order of importance):
1) vacuum and dust. Do it again every 2 weeks. Do not become obsessed, it does not actually reduce your exposure if you do it more frequently.
2) have a ritual house cleansing. Call your local healthfood store and see if they have sage leaves or “smudge sticks.” I’m not really into this stuff, but a couple spiritual cleansings helped me get some voices out of an old house I was renting. I know the skin-crawling thing is purported to be caused by ghosts and spirits, so who knows.
3) see you doctor. Bring a list of any other symptoms you may chronically experience, like digestive, skin, or other symptoms.
4) go to your local health food store and get a b-vitamin complex and take the maximum dosage every day for a couple months, always with food. Sometimes this sensation is caused by Thiamin deficiency (that’s vit B1), and btw, birth control cal deplete your B vitamins quickly.
5) use a dust ruffle (bedskirt) on your bed and wash it every week or so, along with your sheets. Don’t use heavily-perfumed detergents and softeners on it. Have your blankets and duvets professionally cleaned twice per year.
Good luck
Ps – the medical word for the sensation of ants or tiny things crawling on your skin is “formication” with an M, hope that helps…
