I would put your Chi on a small breed puppy food. Also, there is pet insurance. You can get if from many companies, but I think that VPI is the most reasonable.
feed it taco bell
i had a chihuahua growing up a short hair mini but the only way she gained any weight is when we had speghetti. She would wait by the dining room door til dinner was done because she knew I would have a plate for her. ( but I know table food is not very healthy but she did live to be 15 years old) i had to put her to sleep a year after I went to college.
and yes there is pet insurance especially if your pet is a performer or registered breed or used for breeding purposes
Feed it. Yes u can get pet insurance you’ll find brochures in the vets lobby when u take your dog in for a check-up
Feed the Chi more than one meal a day, and make sure you’re using a high-grade high-nutrition food. When we get emaciated dogs in the shelter, we start them off on meals puppy chow (regardless of their age) because there’s extra nutrition in it and it’s easy for the dogs to digest.
And, yes, there is pet insurance. Go to: sheltercare.com

Veterinary Pet Insurance, VPI, is the most recognized name out there for pet insurance. Small breed or puppy food is the best way to help her gain weight, but she may be just fine. It’s not unusual at all for a toy breed dog to eat less than 1/2 cup of food a day. I have a friend with a chihuahua who is fat, and only gets 12 pieces of kibble per day. You should be able to feel her ribs when you pet her, and she should have an hourglass shape when you look straight down at her back.
i know this might seem weird but put your dog on a diet and read the god food bag and there will be a chart that will tell you the we at of your dog and it will say how much it shod feed your dog. if that dose no work try hand feeding your dog it food.
I have a chihuahua, she’s only 2 and 1/2 pds, you have to make sure that it’s bowl always has food in it… and that her food has all the nutrients it needs. ask your vet about which it’d recommend, smaller dogs have larger needs sometimes. Mine was picky and only likes certain brands.
I just went through the same problem with my girl rat terrier. I have started feeding her puppy food again. I feed her dry puppy chow and a full can of pedigree puppy food. She has gained a lot. I also bought her some vitamins at wal-mart. They were very inexpensive and I think they have helped out a lot. The vitamins I bought were for pregnant/nursing dogs, but at the point she was I at I was willing to try anything. Another thing that you might want to check is to see if she has worms. Worms will take away all of the dogs nutrition! After the puppy eats if she/he swells up it would be a great possibilty, that it has worms. Most of the worms the dog will show no symptoms of having them other than being underweight. I hope that this helps!
