Hi
I live in the uk, wales and i was wondering if PDSA provide free treatments for people on benefits?
i have took in a dog JRT from owner who had another dog who attacked the JRT badly. The dog broken the JRT leg. i now have the JRT and he has a plate/bolt in and i have been told by the first owner that its due to come out.
i have got pet insurance but they are refusing to help out saying the leg was broke before i had the insurance!
So does PDSA provide free treatment? Also do vet clinics such as RSPCA give PDSA free treatment?
what procedures do i have to go thougth? do i just take prove of my benefits and then they give me free treatment or do i need to fill in forms for an certifcate before i can get free treatment?
is there any other help I can get with vet bills?
any advice or info will be helpful
thanks
PS Merry Christmas everyone!
Im not sure about all they information but if i need to get my dog checked my gran normally takes him to the pdsa as she is OAP but i did also here something about people on benefits getting free treatment to a certain extent
Contact the PDSA directly to see if you are eligible.
I hope you are because you have done a good thing and shouldn’t be punished for it.
Good luck!
(and happy Xmas)
The RSPCA does not provide free veterinary treatment – that is not what they are there for.
The PDSA also does NOT provide free treatment. They provide reduced cost treatment and they do have some pretty strict requirements. The best thing you could do is look them up in your local Yellow Pages and give them a call.
They will require you to fill in a form and will also need to see some proofs of the benefits you are receiving. I have no idea what they need to be – ask them about it.
If you find that you are not eligible for their help the best suggestion would be to contact a vet and ask if you can arrange to pay for the treatment in instalments.
You really should have thought of this before taking the dog in but no-one can think of everything.
Good luck.
i work for the rspca
the pdsa will see your animal if you get housing benefit and council tax benefit.
unlike the RSPCA they ask you to donate rather than pay fixed costs
if you get housing benefit and council tax benefit phone the pdsa make an appointment and they ask you to bring prrof of this and a house hold bill and they give you an information pack.
If it is the rspca you need to be on income support job seekers allowance or tax credits but for surgery they have fixed prices.
try the pdsa hun and good luck
