I have a Yorkie and she’s been diagnosed with Patella Luxation. I have VPI insurance but it looks like it won’t cover the surgery.
I think the insurance company assumes that it’s a pre-existing condition and I can kind of understand this since it’s very common and a large percentage of them are hereditary.
Anybody know of any pet insurance that will cover it?
A couple of you have mentioned that after it’s been diagnosed, it won’t be covered.
I know this would be a dishonest thing to do but what if I got another insurance (say one that covers it) and get a new diagnosis from a different vet? Currently, none of the paper work done at the vet indicate anything that pertains to this diagnosis. It just states that she’s gotten a physical exam.
I would recommend care credit..I’ll post a link.
Here it is..you will know within minutes if you are approved:

Since your dog has already been diagnosed, I doubt you will find pet insurance to cover the surgery. Most, if not all, pet insurance plans will only cover things that happen AFTER you sign up (and sometimes only like a month after).
And as the other poster said, CareCredit is a good idea, but its not insurance, its credit.
Hi
No insurance that I’m aware of will agree to cover a condition after it’s diagnosed. Your best bet is to pursue this with your current carrier. They are not all hereditary, and can also be caused by a recent or past injury. I would think the burden of proof would be on the insurance company, unless it is clearly stated otherwise in the policy. Way too many things get blamed on being hereditary.
Best of luck.
