Is it safe to take Tramadol unprescribed for *honest* pain?

My dog (yes, dog lol) tore her ACL and was prescribed 50mg Tramadol for her post-op doggy pain. I have no insurance and screwed my foot up pretty bad the other day. Is it safe (as wikipedia suggests) to take these for *my* pain? Is 50mg too much/little for humans? Is the Tramadol used for pets ABSOLUTELY the same as Tramadol used for humans? Please help me out, because I don’t want to OD or whatever trying to avoid the healthcare system.

    Please, don’t touch that stuff.

    I had back pain for months, and tried many pain killers, Tramadol was the worst.

    The come down was absolutely nightmarish, I felt the deepest darkness I’ve ever felt.

    Derek is right! Tramadol has to be the worst pain killer there is! I felt like a zombie for days afterwards!

    The first person who answered your question is basing his answer on his opinion of the drug. Tramadol 50mg is perfectly safe to take, this is actually the dosage that doctors prescribe to patients for alot of different things.. Tramadol 50mg is not going to hurt you as a matter of fact its a non-narcotic pain reliever with narcotic like effects. It should do just fine with your foot problem.

    its the same drug they give humans

    self-medicating is fine UNTIL you see the doctor… dont just take this medicine to ignore the UNDIAGNOSED problem

    and a common strength prescribed is 37.5 mg not 50 mg

    exactly the same dose and drug I was given after they cut a toothpick out of my foot at the hospitol. I would take it personally. It can’t be worse than morphine or roxies, those will get you hooked.
