Last night I had company over for dinner. Afterward we played Catch Phrase which is so much fun we weren’t paying much attention to my dog (shih-tzu). She was hiding and rattling paper and I asked one of the ladies, “What is Chewy doing over there?” She told me Nothing! She’s just playing with something. When everybody was ready to go home, I looked down and saw an empty cheese wrapper. The kind that has individually wrapped cheese slices in it but no cheese. My friends said they thought she was just licking the wrapper… I can’t remember if I had cheese in it or if I might have just not thrown the outside wrapper away. I’ve been watching her and she’s “mopey” today but there’s thunder in the area and she’s always upset by that. Does anyone know what to look for if she DID eat cheese with plastic? What symptoms, if any should I be looking for? I feel SO guilty but I don’t want to take her for xrays if she really doesn’t need them. I have pet insurance but I don’t think they will pay
if it’s not necessary.

If I had a husband/boyfriend, I would be just as worried about him if he ate cheese with the wrapper still on it.
I wouldnt worry too much, even if she did eat the plastic it will come out in her poop over the next day or so.

i would wait a couple of days cause just like humans symptoms take time
Don’t worry, the worse that could happen is maybe a litte runny poop if she not used to eating cheese. If she ate any plastic, it will come out in the end.(no pun intended)
just keep an eye on the dog… cheese should not really hurt. if it was a whole slice it is not so bad.. and if you got the wrapper away then dont worry…
probly the only thing you need to look for is constipation or diarhea… from any cheese… so just watch and wait..
I have outside dogs, and the wind will blow all kinds of trash into their kennel fence, they chew and sometimes eat all kinds of paper, and or plastic. Everything always comes out fine, if you catch my message.
One of my dogs cannot tolerate cheese. It upsets her stomach and gives her diarrhea. She should have no trouble passing a small amount of plastic, if she did eat any. I wouldn’t worry about taking her to the vet unless she doesn’t have a bowel movement within the next 2 days. That could mean a blockage which could be life threatening, so I think your pet insurance would cover that. Good luck.
I kind of doubt that she ate the plastic. Even if she did, your dog should be fine. I’d guess that the processed cheese would probably upset her digestion more than plastic wrap. If she did eat it…you’ll be seeing it again soon.
If it is a problem, you will see vomiting, or signs of stomach discomfort.
As for an x-ray, you would be able to see a blockage, but I doubt you’d see clear plastic.

I wouldn’t worry about her eating cheese. The cheese is not going to hurt her. Although if she ate alot it may constipate her a bit. But there is nothing wrong with cheese, mine love cheese and I give to them anytime I have to give them any meds. And most likely if she did eat the plastic it will pass. If you see signs of vomiting and no pooping, then she will need to go to the vet.
