Our dog is about 65-70 pounds and a Golden Retriever with a slight mix of poodle. We recently felt her back hips popping. We’ve taken her to a vet and she said her hips do indeed pop. I’ve also heard that dogs can grow out of hip dysplasia. Her initial visit was not with our regular vet, so her “having” hip dysplasia is not on her records. We’re trying to decide if we should go through pet insurance or carecredit.com.
So, pet insurance or carecredit? Any experience with either?
Also, how old should a dog be before it’s unlikely to grow out of it?

Symptoms of severe hip dysplasia usually appear before the dog is a year old. Common signs are rear leg pain, poor coordination, trouble rising to their feet and a limp or wavering gait. Dogs with severe hip dysplasia typically develop lameness by the time they are two. Dogs who have less severe cases may not experience arthritis and the related pain or lameness until they are six to ten years old. To find out more, please click on:

The only way to diagnose hip dysplasia is x-rays..unless it is severe manual manipulation can’t diagnose HD.
Dogs also do not “outgrow” HD. If a dog has HD it can stay mild for years causing no problems for more severe forms it can mean a dog may need to be euthanised soon or in some cases a dog can live a reasonably normal life for years. HD can show up in puppies, but unless severe it won’t always show this is why PFA won’t certify hips that have been done under 2 years of age. You can get PennHip done as early as 16 weeks. This is a different type of x-ray and is pretty accurate at determining laxity and if HD will be a problem.
Since your pup hasn’t had x-rays to determine if he indeed has HD I recommend that you get it done..it is the only way to get a diagnosis. There are other problems besides HD.
I have care credit. it is fantastic to use for dogs> it allows you the option of paying high vet bills in payments. They make no distinctions about what illnesses they will or will not pay for, since it is a medical credit card. you can also use it for yourself, like for dentures and eyeglasses.
