My cat came home limping. She has a swollen leg,She is limping. She isn’t crying in pain but she fusses when you try and touch it. How do i now if its a sprain or a break? If its either, how long to heal. If its broken, about how much would a cast cost, without pet insurance. Hundreds? Thousands? She is only 2 years old. Please any answers are helpful.
Just because she was outside doesnt matter. Another cat i had broke his leg being a psycho kitten with a string. Shuff happens, it can not be prevented if it is meant to happen.
take ehr to a vet and ahve them place it cause if it heals wrong you may hvae to put ehr down
have them place it. idk how long. but just take her to a vet please!
You must take the cat to the vet. Only way to tell is an xray..xrays run about 150 at my vets office and he is on the higher side..office visit around 50.
I am going to mention this again for people who are not familiar with care credit…it’s a credit card used for vet bills that alot of vets accept that you can pay off over time with NO interest.
YOUR CAT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN OUTSIDE AND THIS WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED…SORRY YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE.
Either way this will require a visit to the vet to determine if its a break or sprain,
if its broken its not that simple by just putting a cast on it your cat will need to have the leg reset before putting in plaster so will need to be sedated to get x-rayed and the leg set,
but if its a bad break it means surgery to pin the leg back together which is costly but necessary to save your cats leg,as its swollen i guess it is a break but only a vet can tell you for sure,
and a break can take around 6 weeks to heal but again it all depends on where in the leg the break is and how bad a break,
if its a sprain it would swell so bad as your describing and a sprain would be treated with painkillers and rest when my cat had a sprain it cost £30 pounds for painkillers to last 2 weeks,
that is just a guide of what it would cost, but a broken limb can be costly but needed so your vet could arrange a payment plan, as its what i do when i get an unexpected vet bill as i am not insured either(but i must get around to it).
