I woke up this morning and I saw a soft, brown poop. So I let my dog go outside to pee since she hadnt done that yet. She did her thing then came back in thats when I noticed the poop behind the bed that wasnt even poop. It was pure blood, a puddle of it about 4″x 4″.. I know she pooped it because 1: I didnt hear her puke anything and I can always hear that, and 2: There was a tiny turd in the puddle. It was red, fresh blood, not dark, dry blood either. It might have been a little mucusy, but mostly it was just blood because It was very runny. She has been acting completely normal, focusing only on her toys. The only thing odd I can report is that she is jittering sometimes, like shaking. She has always done this from time to time but it seems like she might be doing it more than normal. She is eating and drinking water, And no I havent changed her diet recently. She has always eaten the Eukanuba Dachsund formula, nothing else. Is this something I should take her to the vet for? I plan on taking her soon anyways but I’d like to wait until I have pet insurance if at all possible. But if this sounds serious I will take her immediately. Please let me know where you got your information ![]()
First of all, theres no reason to be so rude. No I wouldn’t run to the doctor if I was pooping blood, espcieally if it was preceded with regular stool. I’d wait to see if things went back to normal and then decide what to do. Not only that but she has done this before about a year ago, I took her to the vet, and they told me it was just a stomach upset, probably from eating something small she found, which she does all the time. So when she pooped a lot more than last time, I came on here because there is a wide variety of expertise and I could get a few different opinions. SO DON’T JUDGE ME. I love my dog very much, she is like my daughter. And I will decide if I think something can wait a few days until my paycheck or if she should go in right away.
That being said, I did take her to the vet, and she has hook worms. I gave her a few pills, called Dontral Plus, that are supposed to kill the worms off. After that, which takes about a week, I’ll be putting her on Sentinel Spec
The dog is pooping blood and you wonder if it’s worth seeing the vet? Seriously?
Shaking can be a sign of pain.
Take your poor dog to the vet ASAP.
Take her to the vet ASAP
Of course pooping blood is serious. I can’t believe that you’ve come to this site. This is a place that I would NEVER come to for medical advice. If you were pooping pure blood, would you go online to see if you needed to see a doctor? Good gawd, what is wrong with you?
some dog food formulas can make the dog poop red but it does not make it poop blood it could be something wrong with the stomach so i would recommend taking you dog to the vet ASAP and when your dog is shaking it is probably a sign of pain so you should get him/her checked right away
Please keep in mind I am not a Dr or vet. I am good at researching things. I found a few things that could be the cause. You need to take him in regaurdless of what we say.
1. A bacteria called Clostridium perfringens produces an illness canine hemorrhagic gastroenteritis.
This disease begins suddenly with vomitting, followed in 2 to 3 hours by profuse bloody diarrhea.
2. Von willebrands disease

3. possible tumors and cancers.
any time a dog either poops or pees blood it is important the dog get to the vets ASAP
