I think my boyfriend’s almost 3 month old puppy has dislocated her hind leg. she’s still playful but her leg hurts her alot and she can still move it but won’t put weight on it.
We haven’t bought pet insurance for it, and most wont cover accident that happens before the insurance is bought.
Does anyone know how much it would approximately cost out of pocket?
excuse me? i did not say we would not take the dog to a vet. I am simply asking for an estimate before we go to the vet based on other’s experience.
i would say get a heart and think if your leg was that way . would you like your parnets waiting around because they dont have insurence to pay for it. mam im sorry but this my friend is why we are disgusting people. please go to thevet and the bill will be around 100 bucks maybe 50 if the vet isnt name brand. what disgrace ,.
it depends on exactly what’s wrong with the leg. anywhere from $200 and up. TAKE THE PUP TO A VET NOW!!!
My dog had the exact surgery your dog would probably need. My lab was hit by a car, dislocated her back leg, and they did a procedure known as an FHO (femoral head excision). If your puppy’s leg hasn’t been dislocated very long, they can often pop it back into place and she’ll be just fine. But after some time, the muscles in the leg actually shorten, and the leg will continue to dislocate again and again. To answer your question, I paid about $800 for the surgery, not including the post operative medications. I bet you can call the vet hospitals in your area and just ask how much an FHO would be to find the best price.
I hope this helps, and best of luck to your pup!
As for buying pet insurance..I’ve owned dogs for over 20 years and never had any use for it. It’s cheaper to borrow the money, set up payments, etc. Or carecredit.com.
Call the vet and ask. The rates vary some. My guess is about $60-$100 for the visit and an X ray, maybe some pain meds. Now if there’s a fracture, it’s going to cost more.
Don’t let her run around on it.
